Am I getting better?

I was listening to the song “Look what you’ve done” on the radio on the way to work…the words say… Look what you've done  Look what you've done in me You spoke your truth into the lies I let my heart believe Look at me now Look how you made me new Oh, the enemy did everything that he could do Oh, but look what you've done It kind of hit me like a ton of bricks how far I’d come. It made me see so truly how God is in the business of making us better. I quit drinking a little over 2 years ago. I used to know the exact number of days and before that I counted hours and before that minutes. I don’t know how many days it’s been now. Look what you’ve done! I hear those words from the song in my heart. I would have never believed I would say that this side of heaven, that I would not know the days. But He heals all the wounds up. We have to suffer for this good and in that suffering He heals us. In that song it talks about God healing all my wounds up….breaking ground, tearing out

Out of the Darkness

“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John‬ ‭12‬:‭46‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”    1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬ God takes us out of the darkness and into the light. He is light, in Him there is no darkness at all. He blesses abundantly. “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8 NIV The struggle is real, the darkness is real. And it can feel so dark. Yet He calls us into the light….why then does it  feel sometimes that I am not in the light at all. Key word-feel. We are not to live by how we feel. The pain of the now, the weight of existe

Patiently Wait

Image
When God brings to light something that needs change we do the necessary work and then we are to wait for it to grow and change us. “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.” ‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬  Change is always hard in fact it should be, this is scientific. Our brains are wired by us, our will. We do this by what we choose to think about daily, and what we choose to think about things when they happen. That is why aligning ourselves with God the creator of all things is so crucial as we walk through this life.  For instance in a simple example when you touch a hot stove and were burned you learn very quickly not to touch it again. When there are immediate painful consequences the brain organizes the information quickly into the correct response DON’T TOUCH.  What happens though, when pain is not immediate? We have to organize ou

Let the Conviction Be for You

Image
Let the conviction be for you. In our world today everyone has a bullhorn. Shouting from the rooftops opinions and ideas and convictions. I love discussion and opinions and debates, but motive behind these things should always be a desire for truth. Let the conviction be for you.  I see so much cruel banter on mostly meaningless topics but even with meaningful topics the banter is often utterly meaningless. When there’s a passion for a topic that  cannot be held back from your bullhorn- let that conviction be for YOU. Let it convict YOU...from Gods conviction comes change, change that leads us toward Him.  Our God is a personal God and He convicts us personally, one on one the still small voice that cuts joint from marrow and calls us in to action and change is for the individual. The created and the creator in communication about what needs to change, what part of the flesh needs to be chastised in order for His will to be done.  When we are convicted the flesh is offended every time

Seek in the Suffering

Image
Seek in the suffering. We spend so much of our energy avoiding suffering in our culture. Although it is our nature to avoid what is hard, it is interesting to think about. When we struggle we can become stronger so why then are we so avoidant of it?  When we find ourselves suffering we immediately reach out for the nearest most assessable relief. This tends to be food, alcohol, entertainment, sex, revenge….there is an endless list of distractions that will relieve, for a small moment, the suffering state we find ourselves in. A small moment is the key to remember. This is suffering in vain; always seeking after small moments of relief.  When we suffer in vain and nothing good ever comes from the struggle, it seems obvious we should avoid it at all costs, but suffering is not for nothing. It is only for nothing when we allow it to be. How do we allow suffering to be for nothing? By feeding it, thus allowing it to grow. We feed our suffering by ignoring it, avoiding it, reveling in the
